Namibia Desert & City Adventure

After an overnight stay in Johannesburg, we will have breakfast before checking out and proceeding to OR Tambo International Airport for check-in and our flight to Windhoek, Namibia. Upon arrival in Windhoek, we will be welcomed by our local team and begin our introduction to Namibia's capital city. Our city tour will cover some of Windhoek's most iconic landmarks, starting with the historic Christ Church and a stop at the Independence Museum, where we will gain insights into Namibia's history, culture, and journey to independence. In the evening, we will enjoy a local Namibian dinner experience, offering an opportunity to sample local delicacies and learn about the culture through food before proceeding to the hotel for check-in and overnight stay. Guests are encouraged to have an early night in readiness for the adventures that await over the coming days.

Breakfast will be served from 7:00 AM. We will check out and depart the hotel exactly at 8:00 AM for a brief tour of Windhoek city. This will also be our last opportunity for shopping as we will be heading into more remote areas where shopping facilities are limited. During the city tour, we will visit some of Windhoek's iconic landmarks and gain a final introduction to Namibia's capital before continuing our journey south. We aim to depart Windhoek by approximately 9:30 AM and begin our drive to Sossusvlei. Approximate driving time: 5-6 hours, excluding comfort stops. This will mainly be a travel day, allowing us to experience Namibia's vast landscapes and changing scenery. The first section of the journey is on a tarmac road, while the latter section is on well-maintained gravel roads. Although the roads are in good condition, the drive can be dusty at times, which is part of the authentic Namibian desert experience. Along the way, we will make a stop at the famous Pink Lake, one of Namibia's most unique roadside attractions and a perfect photo opportunity. Upon arrival at ANAMAB Lodge, guests will have time to relax and enjoy the facilities. Those interested can take a swim, unwind, or simply enjoy the tranquility of the desert surroundings. Dinner will be served from 7:00 PM, after which guests are free to rest at their leisure. As we will have an early start, the following morning for our Sossusvlei excursion, we recommend an early night to ensure everyone is well rested for the adventure ahead.

Today will be our earliest start of the trip. We will wake up at 4:30 AM and be served with tea, coffee, and light snacks such as biscuits to make before departure. Our main breakfast will be packed for later in the morning. The reason for the early departure is that our lodge is located approximately one hour from the Sossusvlei National Park gate. In addition, Sossusvlei is one of Namibia's most visited attractions and often experiences long queues at the exit/entrance. Leaving early allows us to avoid the crowds, enter the park among the first visitors, and enjoy a more relaxed experience. Our destination today is the famous Big Daddy Dune and Deadvlei, two of Namibia's most iconic attractions. As we drive through the dunes, guests will have two options for the excursion. Option 1: For those looking for a challenge, you can hike to the summit of Big Daddy, the highest dune in the Sossusvlei area. Its impressive height is what earned it the name 'Big Daddy'. The hike is approximately 3.0 km in total, including the ascent and descent. Walking one and a half kilometers can be physically demanding as each step sinks slightly into the dune, making progress slower than on normal terrain. The climb to the summit may take up to one hour depending on fitness levels, while the descent takes roughly another hour. The reward is spectacular panoramic views of the Namib desert and a breathtaking view overlooking Deadvlei from the top of the dune. This is one of the most iconic viewpoints in Namibia and offers incredible photography opportunities.

Approximate Driving Time: 6-7 hours, excluding comfort stops and activities. Today's drive will once again showcase Namibia's vast and ever-changing landscapes. The first section of the journey will be on well-maintained gravel roads, which can be dusty at times, before eventually joining the tarmac roads as we approach the coast. Along the way, we will make a stop at Solitaire, a small desert settlement that has become one of Namibia's most famous pitstops, well-known for its vintage vehicles, historic buildings, old church, and unique desert charm. Solitaire offers a glimpse into Namibia's pioneering past and provides a great opportunity for photographs.
